Practical, cost effective solutions

to reduce single-use plastic in hospitality without compromising the guest experience or safety standards

Whatever your challenge...

  • It's yet another thing on your to-do list

  • You've got hundreds of lines of single-use plastic and you don't know where to start

  • You're concerned that any changes will impact on health, safety or the guest experience

  • You don't have the time to source alternatives

  • You're confused about all of the new options on the market

  • You're not sure if the alternatives are as 'green as they seem'

  • You don't have the financial resources to invest in alternatives

  • Your staff aren't really motivated to change

  • You don't know how to communicate the changes to your guests

  • You believe it will cause complaints as guests have certain expectations and will be disappointed if things are taken away

  • You don't have a good waste infrastructure in your destination

We've been helping hospitality businesses to reduce single-use plastic since 2011.
Over that time, we've learned a lot about what it takes to implement a successful plastic reduction programme and how best to engage your staff and guests.

The Let's Reduce Single Use Implementation System and guidance documents have been used by hotels around the world to start or accelerate their waste reduction journeys.

Let's Reduce Single-Use Workshops and Webinars have engaged hundreds of hospitality staff from around the world.

Businesses regularly consult with us for personalised waste reduction strategies, branded toolkits and advice on sourcing truly sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic.

The Let's Reduce Single-Use Implementation System works as a full programme or as stand-alone services, so it can be flexible to suit your business needs.

At IHG we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and seeking out more sustainable solutions. A core part of this commitment is helping our colleagues to better understand the options that enable them to make more environmentally-friendly choices. The “Let’s Reduce Single-Use Toolkit” has been a useful way to help our procurement team to expand their knowledge, and in-turn support our hotel brands to make buying choices that have a more positive impact on both our operations and the environment.

The TUI Plastic Reduction Workshop in Turkey beginning of October 2019 was a great success – the facilitators of Travel Without Plastic provided useful information to our hoteliers how to substitute single-use plastics significantly. Through this workshop, we encouraged our hoteliers to further reduce plastics successfully in order to achieve TUI Group’s objective to remove 250 million pieces of single-use plastics by 2020.

For Turismo de Portugal, it is a great opportunity to work with Travel Without Plastic in order to increase awareness in Portuguese tourist professionals regarding the reduction of single-use plastic, help them find better solutions for the environment and really make the difference in achieving an even more sustainable destination – that’s our path.

It's been great to work with Jo and Travel Without Plastic on this brand new model for the Eyri Ambassador Programme.  The module is inspired by the previous scoping work undertaken to evaluate different options for designating Yr Wyddfa as a plastic-free zone and works as a toolkit for hospitality businesses to reduce their single-use plastics.  The module is full of tips and excptional advice for businesses on becoming greener.

Catrin Glyn, Yr Wyddfa Partnership Officer

The Travel Foundation worked with Travel Without Plastic in February 2021 to deliver a webinar to hoteliers in Cyprus. Jo brought a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience and was a pleasure to work with throughout. The webinar was very well-received by the participants who especially valued the practical tips for reducing plastic, the real-life examples from other hotels and the opportunity to discuss challenges and solutions with peers. Highly recommended!

Seaside Hotels is delighted to work together with Travel Without Plastic on a specific project for our hotels based in the Canary Islands.  As part of our commitment to reducing the unnecessary use of resources we are grateful to have the in-depth knowledge of the Travel Without Plastic team to help us move forward and expand our sustainability programme.  The Let's Reduce Single-Use assets to engage staff and to increase awareness have proved invaluable to communicating our strategy and we look forward to continuing to implement their recommendations.
